3 Things To Do When You’re Unsure About Your Drinking Water

If you’re lucky, you’ll always have easy access to safe drinking water. But for many people, safe drinking water that comes right to their tap isn’t always a reality. For some drinking water has to be brought in from other places. Or still, the water that does come from the tap might not be entirely safe to drink.

If you’re wondering if the water that’s meant for you to drink really is safe for you, here are three things that you can do to ensure that you’re drinking safe water.

Know Who To Call

When you’re unsure about the water coming out of the taps in your home, there are a few different people that you can call to get things figured out.

The first people that you should call is the company or system that handles the public water in your area. They are the ones that provide water to your home. If there’s something amiss, they might know about it first and be able to give you guidance. Additionally, you can also contact your local public health department. They can tell you if there have been other complaints about water from people like your neighbors and further look into what might be going on. They can also come and test the water for you if you’d like.

Get Your Water Tested

If you think there might be something funny about the water coming into your house, it’s wise to get your water tested.

You can have your water tested for all sorts of things. You can test to see the amount of Dissolved Oxygen, you can test to see what bacteria or chemicals might be in your water, and you can test to see if your water is considered safe to drink. Some of these tests can be done by you by purchasing a water testing kit. Other tests may need to be done by professionals to give you more accurate results.

Treat Your Water Before Drinking

When you know or even if you think that your drinking water may not be up to snuff and safe to drink, you can always treat it before you drink it so that you know that it’s going to be safe for you and your family to consume.

To treat your drinking water, you can boil it beforehand, you can disinfect it with iodine or chlorine, or you can use things like ultraviolet light to disinfect the water. You can also put your water through a filter to get rid of certain particles that you don’t want to drink.

If you don’t know if your drinking water is safe to actually drink or not, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you know who to contact and how to treat your water.
